With all the drama of June we were looking forward to a more calm July. We weren't so lucky. Again, we had lots of great memories, but there were some bumps along the way as well. Here's what our July looked like...
It started with Coco and I home alone while the others traveled up north for the Payne Family Reunion. After our experience with her in June, we didn't think it was a good idea to take her up north again so soon. So we stayed home and swam and then we were invited to a BBQ and fireworks with the Capps for the Fourth of July.

Our sweet Tess turned 7 this month! This darling girl has the biggest heart. She loves making friends with everyone (age is not a factor). She feels things deeply and hates seeing anyone sad or upset. She loves animals, fidgets, and playing with friends. She is a ray of sunshine and brings light with her wherever she goes. We love watching her grow and surprise us with the things she learns and is capable of.
She chose to have a Swim Party at the local pool and it was the perfect way to celebrate...

The next day we found out that we had COVID. Not something that we expected at all since we had been able to avoid it up until this point. After our trip to Pine Valley, Addie's friend Emma, became sick the next day. Then Addie got sick the next day, followed by Devin, and by the time it reached me I decided to get tested. Sure enough, we had COVID. The girls were fortunate in that it only lasted a short time for them and their symptoms weren't that bad. Devin and I struggled quite a bit. We never had to seek medical attention but we were bedridden for quite a few days and quite sick for even longer. We quarantined for the full 2 weeks and because of it we had to miss the one trip that we had planned for the summer, I was sick on my birthday, and the amazing hike in Zion that we were supposed to do on our Anniversary also had to be cancelled. Devin, Addie, and I all lost our taste and smell. We were blessed by so many acts of kindness... grocery drop-offs, dinners, activities for the girls, people checking in on and us and treats. We even got to see amazing skies like this and truly felt that the Lord was aware of us.
By the time we had completed our quarantine, Addie started to develop a rash on her legs. At first, we thought it was the COVID rash that is pretty common. However, she then had so much pain in her leg that she couldn't put weight on and the "rash" kept getting worse. After taking her in to the doctor she was diagnosed with HSP (Henoch-Schonlein Purpura) which is basically her immune system overworking and cause the blood vessels in her legs to burst. It also causes pain, inflammation, and swelling. The biggest concern is that it can cause bleeding in her organs and potential kidney failure. To be sure that this wasn't taking place, she had to have her bloodwork taken anytime a new symptom presented itself. We were told that it would come and go for about a month. We were also told that it could turn into MIS-C which is another complication of COVID in children and could cause cardiac arrest, stroke, or seizures. Needless to say, we watched her like a hawk for the next couple weeks and she even slept in my bed for several nights just so I could hear if anything was happening during the night. It was another scary moment for our family, but with each clear bloodwork panel we felt a little more relief each time.
On a visit to the pet store to get more stuff for Tess' new pets, she saw this extremely tiny turtle and we both instantly became obsessed. We decided that it needed to come home with us and Tess couldn't have been more excited.
Coco is (and hopefully always will be) my cuddle buddy.
July was definitely not the month that we had hoped that it would be but we were grateful for how much we were blessed during this time. And with a whole month lost, we now had just a couple weeks to prepare for school... Here we go!
